Wide Boyz II DVD Front Cover

wide boyz ii – slender gentlemen

From: £10

After their success climbing the world's hardest offwidth, the Wide Boyz, Pete Whittaker and Tom Randall, embark on their next crack climbing mission. This time their sights are set on the thinner end of the crack climbing spectrum. Their goal is the mighty Cobra Crack in Squamish BC, considered to be the hardest finger crack in the world. First climbed by Canadian 'rock star' Sonnie Trotter after battling it out with Didier Berthod, the route hit the media spotlight in the film First Ascent.

With no local hard cracks to train on, the Wide Boyz refit their underground training dungeon and commit to a year of torturous finger training. With only a short trip to Canada planned, the Boyz face their biggest challenge yet against the sharp granite bite of the mighty Cobra Crack!

Just watched Wide Boyz II Slender G’men, which came in post yesterday. Totally riveting! A great follow-up to Wide Boyz 1, surely set to be a classic amongst climbing films. (OK, I won’t call you shirley again…) The story, the authentic and stunning shots of climbing and training, the editing without poncy gimmicry, and two of the most ideal and unassuming stars of screen and rock – what more could a climbing film deliver? Congrats to team Paul for another Hot Aches belter.
You ever thought of making a one hour documentary on The Climbing Game for general TV distribution, redressing some of the lay misconceptions about our sport that are fed by celebrity stunts and Gladiators, and giving all of us bumbly punters something to revel in? It could be the definitive public consumption climbing film of all time – no dumming down, no silly dramatics – I can hardly wait. Do it!

I watched WideBoyz 2 last night. Cracking film. A suitable follow up to the seminal Wideboyz. It goes through the highs and lows after Pete and Tom’s ground-breaking first ascent of Century Crack and shows the true struggle of achieving hard ascents.
As in the first film, the team’s comradery comes across really well and is truly inspirational. It’s interesting how they adapt their cellar training regime for Cobra Crack. It’s great watching them egg each other on. A true climbing partnership which a lot of films of top climbers don’t portray.
Make sure you check out the extras! There’s a fantastic video of the Wideboyz visiting some amazing looking sandstone towers in Poland, a really good grit video with footage of Baron Greenback and An Appointment with Death. There’s a couple of additions to the crack school from the first video going further into the technique of ringlocking and swimming up funny crack widths.
Both Wideboyz and Wideboyz 2 are set to become true classics. Two of the best climbing films ever produced.

Bit disappointed. Wide Boyz was so damn good I have been frustrated by some cuts, specially on Tom’s final attempt.
We don’t see all the moves and gear set up in the crux ! An “uncut” shooting, from the ground to the top would have been so nice. Maybe not worst 15 £…
